Project overview

What's WeTransfer?

You probably already know it and have probably used it yourself. With over 60 million active users, WeTransfer is one of the most popular ways to send large files worldwide. Most people know it for quick, free transfers, but behind the scenes, there’s a whole set of premium features and product flows that keep the business running. That’s where I came in ✨.

My contributions

At WeTransfer, I worked as the main Product Designer in the Growth team, leading initiatives that directly impacted revenue and user experience. In parallel, I also drove quality-of-life improvements, product enhancements, and design system management, balancing strategic growth projects with the continuous evolution of the product. The three initiatives below give a taste of that mix: they show how I combined design for growth, product improvements, and user experience in one role.

Recoverable transfers

Problem

Expired transfers were a major frustration for users — lost files, missed deadlines, zero way to recover. For WeTransfer, it also meant millions in lost potential conversions. Turning recovery into a premium feature was both a user win and a clear business opportunity.

Solution

I designed a recovery flow that surfaced in the transfer window and the transfer list, so users could easily restore expired files when they needed it most. Messaging highlighted peace of mind and reliability, while keeping the feature exclusive to Ultimate subscribers.

Impact

  • Over 5,000 Ultimate conversions per week.

  • Projected to generate $23M in annual recurring revenue.

  • With expanded entry points, recovery is expected to unlock up to $30M in yearly revenue.

Malware scan

Problem

Malware scanning was often mentioned in enterprise sales calls as a critical need. With 60M yearly downloaders and little monetization in that segment, it became an obvious opportunity to pair trust with growth.

Solution

I designed a new download flow where Ultimate subscribers could scan transfers before downloading. For non-subscribers, the flow highlighted the benefit with clear messaging and an easy upgrade path.

Impact

  • Opened a new monetization channel from downloaders

  • Strengthened trust and reliability perception

  • $2.5M–$4.4M projected annual revenue

iOS paywall

Problem

On mobile, the paywall is one of the most critical conversion points. The old version didn’t clearly communicate plan hierarchy or value, limiting its effectiveness. The opportunity was to improve monetization while keeping usage stable

Solution

I redesigned the iOS paywall with a cleaner layout and sharper messaging. The new design emphasized the yearly subscription as the best-value option, while maintaining the weekly plan as an accessible entry point. The flow was simplified to reduce friction and guide users more confidently toward upgrading.

Impact

  • +23.8% overall conversions

  • +16.3% ABPU

  • No changes in average transfers sent

Conclusions

These three projects highlight how design shaped both user experience and business growth at WeTransfer. From reducing major pain points to unlocking millions in revenue, they illustrate the scale of impact design can have.

What you see here is only a short summary of much deeper flows and explorations. My role as a product designer in WeTransfer meant working end-to-end: from big initiatives like these, to countless smaller improvements all contributing to making WeTransfer more valuable, trustworthy, and seamless to use 🎨.
